History of Rotary's Program of Polio Eradication

Since 1985, ending polio has been Rotary’s top philanthropic goal. Since then, polio cases have been slashed by 99 percent worldwide. While most of the world is polio-free, this vaccine-preventable disease still threatens children in parts of Africa and South Asia.

Since November 26th, 2007 the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation have given The Rotary Foundation a grant of US$355 million for Rotary’s Polio Plus Program in which Rotary’s challenge over the next 3 years is to raise US$200 Million.

Rotary’s US$200 Million Challenge is a continuation of Rotary’s longstanding commitment to protect every child from this devastating disease.

Rotary International's Polio Challenge needs your Club support

The Rotary Club of Melton Valley is selling Polio Challenge 1.2kg Rich Fruit Cakes as a project to help raise funds for the Rotary International's Polio Challenge.

The Polio Challenge Rich Fruit Cake combines the fi nest fruits, nuts and other ingredient available into a delicious, moist and old fashioned style rich fruit cake.

Made from 50% fruit with sultanas, raisins, currants, red cherries and mixed peel The Polio Challenge Rich Fruit Cake is ideal for everyday family consumption or those special occasions.

Proceeds from the sale of this Rich Fruit Cake will go towards helping meet Rotary’s US$200 Million Challenge, so help END POLIO NOW

For each Polio Challenge Rich Fruit Cake sold by your Rotary Club $5 will be directly credited to your clubs contribution to support the Rotary International Polio eradication Programme and help save childrens' lives.

Orders for Polio Challenge Rich Fruit Cakes can be made in multiples of 2 cartons (equals 12 Fruit Cakes), by the pallet (50 cartons per pallet = 300 Cakes), or by the pallet using a combined club purchase (50 cartons per pallet = 300 Cakes).
